Design, with the drafting still in it.
I’m a senior product designer with a background in technical drafting. I work on complex software for engineers, builders, and other people who can’t afford friction.
The through-line across fifteen years and very different products is the same problem: people who are experts at their real work and shouldn’t have to become experts at the software too. Construction estimators at Trimble, where a slow tool costs a firm a bid. Parents of neurodiverse kids at Goally, configuring a morning routine at six in the morning. Patrons navigating ADA-compliant wayfinding across twenty-six branches of Denver Public Library. Different domains, same discipline: reduce load, make the next step obvious, stay out of the way.
These days I work between design and product. I build agentic AI workflows for design automation, and it has changed how I think about what the designer role actually is. I’m looking for senior IC or lead work in enterprise and technical software, and interested in hybrid designer/PM roles where the problem is complex enough to warrant both hats.
